Is the assertion made by the former minister that Edappadi Palaniswami is the potential Prime Minister an indication of the ambiguity surrounding the choice of a prime ministerial candidate? Alternatively, could it be a strategic maneuver to distance the party from any potential alliance with the BJP?
Within the AIADMK, Amma was regarded as a national leader, deemed fit for the role of Prime Minister, possessing the charisma and capability to impact the national stage. However, when discussing Edappadi, the emphasis seems to rest solely on the notion that any Indian citizen can aspire to leadership. Yet, this simplistic approach fails to acknowledge the multifaceted qualifications required. Such a narrative could conceivably weaken AIADMK’s traditional stronghold in upcoming parliamentary elections.
Even during his tenure as Chief Minister, #EPS struggled to secure electoral victories while maintaining control over the party and government. Consequently, it’s possible to interpret these claims as a weapon wielded by those opposing EPS to undermine his position.
Regarding Modi, or the “Lady,” the consequences of legal cases after the 2014 elections are well-known, highlighting the significance of the political climate.
The national vision for Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) remains unclear. Recently, he admitted his lack of understanding of the term “Aryam Dravida,” indicating its obscurity to all but scholars and researchers.
One indisputable fact remains: he aspires to be Prime Minister and promises significant financial incentives to every MP. However, beyond this financial incentive, his ideological, personality, and administrative competencies seem limited.
Unless AIADMK adopts a clear stance in determining the Prime Minister, declaring “I am the Prime Minister candidate” in pursuit of votes may erode the party’s traditional support base. Such effusive praise from Edappadi’s supporters can be interpreted as an impending threat to those who receive it.
Recognizing this dynamic, Edappadi Palaniswami should act in a manner that fosters AIADMK’s growth without impediment.
