The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a 600-page chargesheet in the case of the petrol bomb attack in front of the Governor’s House in Chennai. The chargesheet also includes charges of attempt to murder the Governor.

On October 25, 2023, a rowdy named Karukka Vinoth from Chennai’s T. Nagar tried to throw a petrol bomb in front of the Governor’s House in Guindy. Police officers standing outside the Governor’s House caught him before he could throw the bomb. The petrol bombs he threw fell outside the house.

Police seized two more petrol bombs from Vinoth. He was arrested and interrogated. Vinoth was charged under five sections and remanded in custody. Vinoth had several other pending criminal cases, so Chennai Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore ordered action against him under the Goondas Act.

Vinoth was subsequently arrested under the Goondas Act. In the meantime, Governor R.N. Ravi sent a report to the Union Home Ministry on the petrol bomb attack and the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. The NIA took up the petrol bomb attack case at the behest of the Union Home Ministry and registered a case and conducted an investigation.

In this case, the NIA filed a 600-page chargesheet in the Poonamallee court today. Charges of attempt to murder the Governor have also been included. Similarly, section 124 has been added to Vinoth’s case.

The chargesheet states that Vinoth had planned to attack the Governor in order to create unrest in the state. He had also planned to attack other government officials and institutions.

The NIA has requested the court to take Vinoth into judicial custody.

The petrol bomb attack in front of the Governor’s House was a serious incident that threatened the security of the state. The NIA’s investigation has revealed that the attack was planned by a group of extremists who are opposed to the government. The NIA’s chargesheet is a significant step in bringing the perpetrators of this crime to justice.
