The MLA’s son and daughter-in-law in Pallavaram brutally beat and tortured a woman who came to work at home. The name of the woman who filed the complaint is Rekha. She is the daughter of Veeramani-Selvi couple from Thirunangundram Colony in Uthundurpet Taluk, Kallakurichi District.

Rekha, who has studied up to 12th standard, went to the home of DMK MLA Karunanidhi in Chennai on April 26, 2023, through a broker named Chitra, through a relative who works as a watchman in Chennai.

There, she gradually learned the tasks and did them. They told her to cut vegetables and cook food. They also told her to wash clothes and dry them, and to sweep the house. They beat and kicked her for finding mistakes in the work she did.

On the night of the Pongal festival, on the occasion of the Pongal festival, the MLA’s family took Rekha in their car and left her at her home in Thirunangundram.

Two days later, on the day of Pongal, Rekha told her mother that the MLA’s son Andro Mathivaanan and daughter-in-law Merlina had beaten and kicked her and burned her body with cigarettes for the past few months. Following this, the woman was admitted to the government hospital in Uthundurpet for treatment.

Later, based on the information provided by the hospital administration, the district police conducted an investigation and informed the Thiruvanmiyur police as the incident took place in the Thiruvanmiyur area.

In this case, as a young woman has been affected, the police at the Neelangarai All Women Police Station have been investigating the incident. In the meantime, leaders including BJP leader Annamalai have demanded that strict action be taken against the MLA’s son and daughter-in-law who tortured the minor.

In this situation, the Neelangarai police have registered a case against the MLA Karunanidhi’s son Andro and daughter-in-law Merlina under 4 sections of the Women’s Protection Act. Following a death threat to Rekha, she was immediately taken to Madurai.

There, giving an interview to a private television channel, Rekha described the atrocities that happened to her.

She said that even though she did the housework after learning it, they would find fault and beat her. They would beat her while saying that she is the MLA’s daughter-in-law. They would threaten to file a complaint against her mother to the police. They would attack her with sambar ladle, dosa ladle, and knife.

She said that she would cry as she could not bear the pain of the beating. Even then, they would not stop and beat her until she bled. They would beat her while telling her to go and wash.

She said that when she was writhing in pain from the bleeding wounds, they would dissolve chili powder and pour it on top. They cut off all her hair, even then they beat and tortured her saying that she is the MLA’s daughter-in-law.

Evidence Kair has demanded that those who tortured the young woman who came to work at home should not only be booked but also arrested and imprisoned. He also questioned why Chief Minister Stalin has not yet spoken about this incident.
