Thousands of Aavin milk packets have been found dumped in a canal in Tambaram, Tamil Nadu, in a shocking incident. This comes at a time when people were struggling to get milk due to the floods caused by the recent cyclone.

On December 4, the Migjam cyclone caused heavy rains in Chennai, causing widespread flooding. The city was still struggling to recover, even five days after the rains stopped. Power was still out in some areas due to the waterlogging.

The heavy rains, which reached up to 40 cm in a day, caused widespread damage. Chennai’s annual average rainfall is between 100 and 1100 mm. But on December 4, more than one-third of the annual rainfall fell. This is why the flooding has taken so long to recede.

The floods also washed away a lot of property. It is estimated that over 4 lakh vehicles were damaged. Most of these were motorcycles and autorickshaws. This has added to the financial burden on ordinary people.

People had to leave their homes and belongings behind and take shelter on rooftops to save their lives. In this situation, there was a severe shortage of drinking water and milk. People were unable to find milk even if they were willing to pay any amount.

The production of milk was affected due to the flooding of the Aavin dairy farm in Chennai and the inability of employees to come to work. As a result, it was not possible to distribute Aavin milk in the usual quantities.

On the other hand, private milk comes from Andhra Pradesh. But the cyclone made landfall in Andhra Pradesh, so milk production was affected there too. As a result, children, the elderly, and the sick were facing difficulties without milk. If milk was available, it was sold at high prices of Rs 50-70 for a packet that normally costs Rs 30. It was only four days after the rains stopped that milk distribution returned to normal.

In this context, it has been found that more than 2000 Aavin milk packets have been dumped in a canal in Tambaram, Chennai. The public has demanded that an inquiry be conducted into the matter. There is no doubt that these milk packets would have been a great help to people affected by the floods.

The incident has sparked outrage among the public. They are demanding that the government take action against those responsible for the dumping of the milk packets.
