An Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer was caught red-handed while taking a bribe from a government doctor in Dindigul. Here is how he was caught.
The ED has been conducting raids on the premises of businessmen and politicians who are accused of illegal money transactions across the country. There are also allegations that the ED is being used by the central government to target political opponents in states ruled by opposition parties.
In Tamil Nadu, the ED has conducted raids on the homes and offices of former ministers, businessmen, and contractors under various cases. Recently, the ED officials issued summons to district collectors in connection with the sand quarry issue.
In Dindigul district, the ED officials conducted raids on the homes of businessman Ratnakumar.
A doctor named Dr. Suresh Babu, who works at a government hospital in Dindigul, was booked by the ED. A person named Angad Tiwari, who claimed to be working in the ED, asked Dr. Suresh Babu to pay Rs.3 crore to get him released from the case in which he was accused of amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income. Dr. Suresh Babu agreed to pay Rs.20 lakh in the first installment. Angad Tiwari received Rs.20 lakh last month.
But Angad Tiwari then threatened Dr. Suresh Babu to pay another Rs.31 lakh. Dr. Suresh Babu then lodged a complaint with the anti-corruption police.
The anti-corruption police decided to catch Angad Tiwari red-handed. For this, they asked Dr. Suresh Babu to give Angad Tiwari currency notes smeared with chemicals.
Dr. Suresh Babu gave the currency notes smeared with chemicals to Angad Tiwari on the Madurai highway. After receiving Rs.31 lakh from Dr. Suresh Babu, Angad Tiwari tried to leave the scene.
When he saw the anti-corruption police, Angad Tiwari was shocked and tried to escape. The police arrested Angad Tiwari and seized the currency notes.
