A person who was transporting a 30-kilogram heroin consignment worth Rs 90 crore on the Pandian Express train in Madurai has been arrested. Are there people in Madurai connected to the international drug trafficking network? The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is conducting a thorough investigation into the drug seizure.
In recent weeks, heroin consignments worth Rs 2,000 crore originating from Iran via sea routes in the Gulf of Khambhat, Gujarat, were intercepted. Among them, a 150-kilogram heroin consignment was discovered. Five individuals associated with the international drug trafficking network, including two from Tamil Nadu, have been arrested. It has been discovered that those involved in drug trafficking from Tamil Nadu have connections to the seized heroin.
DMK party leader Japar Sadik, who resides in Tamil Nadu, is being investigated by the Delhi Narcotics Control Bureau for his involvement in the heroin seizure. During the investigation, Japar Sadik’s residence was raided in Chennai, and evidence was seized.
Meanwhile, in the past week, Tamil Nadu’s Madurai West area inspector, Tamim Ansari, was arrested for his involvement in the production of heroin in his home. During the investigation, it was found that essential ingredients for manufacturing heroin were present at his residence, leading to his arrest. In the interrogation, Ansari implicated Arun and Anbu, who allegedly supplied heroin to Chennai.
Today (March 1), another person was arrested for transporting a 30-kilogram heroin consignment worth Rs 200 crore on the Pandian Express train at Madurai Railway Station. The arrested person has been identified as Prakash. He is said to be from Chennai’s Teynampet area.
Regarding the seizure of heroin in trains, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials from Chennai tracked Prakash and subsequently apprehended him after his departure from Chennai to Sengottai on the Bodh Gaya Express train.
Prakash was found in possession of 30 kilograms of heroin, valued at Rs 90 crore in the international market. The interrogation revealed that Prakash had made arrangements to transport the heroin to Madurai by train.
Following his interrogation, Prakash was taken to the Madurai Railway Protection Force (RPF) station for further investigation.
During the investigation conducted from 5 am to 12 pm today, Prakash was interrogated and it was confirmed that the 30-kilogram heroin consignment consisted of 15 kilograms of powder and 15 kilograms of liquid, totaling 30 kilograms. Following this, DRI officials approved Prakash’s transfer to the next phase of the investigation at the Central Investigation Office.
It has also been revealed that authorities are investigating whether attempts were made to smuggle heroin to Sri Lanka by engaging in commercial activities in Madurai or by traveling to Rameswaram.
Authorities are also investigating why heroin consignments of international proportions were not deposited in one place but rather distributed across various districts of Tamil Nadu. This raises concerns among drug enforcement authorities who are conducting intense investigations into the matter.
