Tamil Nadu government has been urged to provide the artist women’s rights allowance to the heads of families of the differently-abled.

The government has also announced that the appeals for the women’s rights allowance will be resolved within 30 days. As a result, 5,041 additional beneficiaries have been added to the scheme for the month of October.

The names of 8,833 people have been disqualified after being identified as deceased or ineligible among those who received the rights allowance. Similarly, the information provided in the application has been confirmed with the women to ensure that it is correct.

The bank accounts of applicants with confirmed information have been credited with Rs.1000 rights allowance this month. Apart from this, messages have been sent to many appeal applicants who have not received money this month as a gesture of comfort.

The SMS states, “When the revenue collector’s office contacts you for an investigation on this matter, please provide the necessary information and cooperate. Your appeal petition will be considered and a decision will be announced by the end of November.”

Despite the government’s actions, news is still coming out that some people are disappointed. Among them, the most important are the differently-abled. Many differently-abled people applied for the artist women’s rights allowance scheme. But most of the differently-abled people did not get a thousand rupees.

The reason is that their petitions have been rejected, stating that they all have a four-wheeler. That is, additional two wheels are added to the two sides of the two-wheelers used by the differently-abled for their safety. Therefore, the women’s rights allowance has been rejected, considering it as a four-wheeler like a car or van.

In protest against the denial of the women’s rights allowance to the heads of families of the differently-abled, protests were held in 23 districts yesterday. In this context, the protest held at the Chennai Collectorate office was led by the association’s president Jhanseerani. A petition was also submitted to Chennai Collector Rashmi Siddharth Jagade.

The Tamil Nadu government has been urged to provide the artist women’s rights allowance to the heads of families of the differently-abled.

The government has announced that appeals for the women’s rights allowance will be resolved within 30 days. As a result, 5,041 additional beneficiaries have been added to the scheme for the month of October.

However, many of the differently-abled people did not receive the Rs.1,000 allowance because they were disqualified for having a four-wheeler. The differently-abled people claimed that the four-wheelers they were using were not for personal use but for their safety.

In protest against this, protests were held in 23 districts of Tamil Nadu on November 20, 2023. The protesters demanded that the government provide the allowance to all eligible differently-abled people.

The protesters also demanded that the government change the rules to allow differently-abled people to own four-wheelers for their safety.

The government has not yet responded to these demands.
