K C Palanisamy (born 7 December 1959) is an Indian politician, former Member of Parliament (MP) and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Tamil Nadu (TN). A former member of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), he served the Dravidian party founded by former Chief Minister (CM) of Tamil Nadu, late Dr. M G Ramachandran (MGR) on 17 October 1972.

A bill providing 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures was passed in the Rajya Sabha following the Lok Sabha. The Rajya Sabha on Thursday (September 21) passed a historic bill to reserve one-third seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women.

The bill was passed with a majority vote of all the members of the Rajya Sabha. 215 votes were cast in favour of this bill.

Not a single vote was recorded. Concluding the debate on the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “This bill will bring new hope to the people of the country.” He continued, “This shows the positive thinking of all political parties, which will give new energy to empower women.”

Earlier, the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. There were 454 votes in favour and two against from AIMIM.

The bill was tabled by Law Minister Arjun Singh Maghwal. During the debate on the bill, Home Minister Amit Shah promised that a transparent process would be followed to identify seats to be reserved for women.
