Madras high court on Monday reserved its order on five criminal revision petitions moved by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) against the discharge of DMK minister Duraimurugan and his family members from a disproportionate assets case booked in 2002. Concluding the final hearing, Justice P Velmurugan reserved his orders in the petitions.
On Feb 23, 2007, a special court in Vellore discharged Duraimurugan, his wife D Santhakumari, brother Durai Singaram, son D M Kathir Anand, and daughter-in-law K Sangeetha from the 2002 case booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Aggrieved, during the then AIADMK regime, DVAC preferred criminal revision petitions against the discharge in March 2012. Though the revision was filed after a delay of 1,789 days, the court condoned the delay considering the fact that DMK was in power between 2006 and 2011. TNN
