Anna Malai: Is the ‘Merger’ a Trap at the End of the Road?!

The political arena is heating up with the upcoming elections. It’s customary for political parties to form alliances as election fervour intensifies. In recent days, significant figures from the AIADMK, which has been wavering, have joined the BJP, as reported. In this context, BJP state president Anna Malai stated, “Key leaders of AIADMK-affiliated parties will join the BJP in Coimbatore on Tuesday evening at 5 PM.” Following this announcement, BJP supporters also rallied on social media, urging others to join the cause. They also mentioned the names of former AIADMK ministers while welcoming them to the BJP.

During the rally attended by Prime Minister Modi, held in Palladam, the BJP members expressed their concerns regarding the delay in implementing their party’s welfare schemes. Amidst chants of former ministers’ names, such as Sengottaiyan and MLA E.M.L. Ayyappan, Anna Malai declared, “There’s no rally happening here at the moment.” This declaration disappointed the attendees.

Subsequently, BJP leaders Sudhakar Reddy, L. Murugan, and Vanathi Srinivasan convened with journalists at the residence of Anna Malai. They explained, “The planned alliance merger rally has been postponed due to security concerns. Despite this setback, leaders from various parties are still joining the BJP. The alliance partners trust Modi’s administration and are joining us.”

Responding to questions from journalists about the cancellation of the rally, L. Murugan expressed frustration, saying, “I am a lawyer. Vanathi is also a lawyer. We know how and where to speak. No matter how many times you ask the same question, the answer remains the same. The alliance rally has been postponed.”

During the extended wait, Raja Ammaiyappan, a prominent figure from the Tamil Nadu BJP, met with BJP leaders. After their discussions, Raja Ammaiyappan spoke to journalists, stating, “I have resigned from our Tamil Nadu party. I have taken up another job.” He further clarified, “I have joined another party. There’s no turning back. There’s no confusion. I won’t join the BJP.”

He added, “They offer opportunities to meet the Prime Minister. I won’t join their party. We’ve decided not to join the party. Let’s see what happens next.” He repeatedly changed his answers in response to journalists’ questions, causing confusion.

In response to the reporters’ questions, Murugan and others assured, “We have given Prime Minister Modi an audience. We have not joined the party yet. We are not part of it. We can consider joining the party separately.” They repeatedly changed their stance in response to reporters’ questions, causing further chaos.
